Gestas — The Unrepentant
Gestas — “moaner, complainer.”
He mocked even while dying. Surrounded by grace, he made it all about himself — “save yourself — and us.” The black cross is the weight of sin refused and the night that never ends.
“Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself — and us!” Luke 23:39
Jesus — The Offering
The innocent One, hung between two guilty men. Red for the blood of the Offering — poured out for the sin of all mankind, so every soul, yours included, could be made new.
“Father, forgive them — they do not know what they are doing.” Luke 23:34
Dismas — The Repentant
Dismas — “sunset.” The end of one day; the dawn of eternity.
Even dying, Dismas preached — rebuking Gestas: “We deserve our punishment, but this man has done nothing wrong.” He made it all about Christ, naming Jesus as the Offering for mankind’s sin and asking only to be remembered. White for a soul washed clean.
“Today you will be with Me in paradise.” Luke 23:43
Same distance from Jesus. Gestas made it about himself. Dismas made it about Christ.
One chose pride. One chose mercy.
